AXYS Technologies Inc. (AXYS) wins WxSentinel AWOS award from AREVA Resources Canada

October 5, 2009

AXYS Technologies Inc. (AXYS) announced today that AREVA Resources Canada Inc. has selected the AXYS WxSentinel™ Automated Weather Observing System (AWOS) to support air operations at their Points North airfield in far Northern Saskatchewan.

The WxSentinel™ AWOS is an automated weather observation station capable of withstanding extreme conditions in remote locations. The AREVA station will incorporate an AXYS WatchMan500™ data acquisition system to transmit real time weather information via VHF telemetry to arriving and departing aircraft. AXYS WxView™ display software will also be used for ground weather observations and pilot flight planning.

“AREVA Resources required an AWOS that would report mission critical weather information consistently and reliably in an extreme environment” said Dennis Stacey, AXYS Aviation Systems Specialist. “Like many other Canadian companies with similar requirements before them, they chose to rely on an AXYS WxSentinel™ AWOS.”

Points North Airfield provides logistical support to AREVA Resources Canada Inc’s northern mining operations. Safely and intelligently transporting their mining crews and support staff is extremely important to AREVA, and as such they require a comprehensive monitoring system ensuring their pilots understand real time weather conditions allowing them to make timely and safe decisions.
