AXYS Technologies Inc. (AXYS) provides directional wave monitoring buoy to a major Japanese ship builder

MHIphotoFollowing a successful field evaluation in late 2008, AXYS has been awarded a contract from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) for the supply of a TRIAXYS™ Mini directional wave monitoring buoy. Wave data is a critical input in understanding and validating new ship performance. The rechargeable battery powered TRIAXYS™ delivers highly accurate directional wave data to support sea trials of MHI’s newly launched ships at Nagasaki. MHI found the TRIAXYS™ buoy delivers higher quality wave data than ship-based microwave systems.

TRIAXYS™ Mini weighs less than 60kg, which permits easy two-person deployment and recovery operations from a small support boat. The buoy is equipped with a custom drogue mooring to minimize drift in the trial area, without impeding the buoy’s wave following and measuring ability. Directional wave data is transmitted to MHI personnel on the ship’s bridge via Iridium Short Burst Data (SBD) email, an AXYS-provided telemetry service.

The initial trial and subsequent purchase was facilitated by AXYS’ Agent in Japan, Nippon Kaiyo Co. Ltd. Additional training and support will be provided in Japan by an AXYS Field Service Specialist in late March, 2009. Terms of the contract are confidential.
